Until the excavation of Non Ban Jak (NBJ), the human skeletal record of the late Iron Age in northeast Thailand invariably consisted of small samples or, if larger, of poorly preserved burials, limiting the ability to understand this time period.

This presentation will provide the first preliminary summary of the demography and selected aspects of health and disease for this community including high infant mortality, extensive dental agenesis and significant infectious disease.

Associate Professor Kate Domett is based in the College of Medicine and Dentistry at James Cook University in north Queensland where she specialises in teaching musculoskeletal anatomy and undertaking research in bioarchaeology predominantly based on prehistoric Southeast Asia skeletal samples.
