  • Biography

Nina Nymeyer is a PhD student at the ANU School of Archaeology and Anthropology, where she is conducting research on the intersection between physical movement practices, humanitarianism, asylum seekers and EU migration. Her proposed study will conduct research on local grassroots yoga initiatives by asylum seekers in a community-led NGO, Yoga and Sport with Refugees (YSR) on the EU’s external borders in Greece. Her research interests include yoga, sport, the body, phenomenology, im/mobility, asylum and humanitarianism. Outside her doctoral study, Nina works with newly arrived refugee communities in South-West Sydney at the NSW Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors (STARTTS). There, she designs and facilitates youth initiatives and programs for resettling young people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
