  • Biography

Carlos is an anthropology PhD student at the Australian National University interested in exploring processes of continuity and adaptation of religions in new cultural and socioeconomic settings.

Carlos is immersed in a captivating fieldwork, delving into the world of Cuban immigrants and Australian-born Afro-Cuban religions practitioners in Australia. He researches people’s motivations and how they negotiate and adapt their practices to the new context. Carlos looks for new perspectives to describe his findings in a way that is academically rigorous and innovative while honouring people’s experiences.

Carlos was born in Cuba, where he lived most of his life, and now lives in Australia. He has studied fields ranging from information technology, music, and public policy to international relations, psychology, and theology. He currently works for the Australian Federal Department of Climate Change as a senior adviser on behavioural insights.
