Iman is an evolutionary and biological anthropologist investigating human adaptation, diversity, and socio-ecological dynamics across Island Southeast Asia (Nusantara). His foundational research, developed during his time as a research student at the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Anthropology Jakarta, integrated molecular anthropology, historical linguistics, and kinship systems to reconstruct population histories and genetic diversity in the region.

Bridging these biological foundations with behavioural and evolutionary frameworks, his current PhD research examines the cultural evolution and land tenure systems within the complex demographic and socio-political structures of small-scale Indigenous societies, focusing on the Baduy people of Indonesia. Prior to commencing his PhD, Iman held an academic post in biological anthropology at Universitas Indonesia.
